Titrant For Titratable Acidity In Wine Mini Titrator - HI84502-50
The HI-84502-50 is a 230 mL bottle of titrant solution for use with the HI-84502 TItratable Acidity Mini Titrator for Wine Analysis.
The HI-84502-50 titrant solution is used for both the low and high acidity ranges. The titrant is pre-standardized, eliminating the need for any volumetric glassware or a analytical balance and ensuring titrations are fast, accurate, and simple to perform.
The HI-84502-50 is a 230 mL bottle of alkaline titrant solution that is used for low and high range determinations of acidity in wine. The HI-84502 mini titrator is designed to determine the acidity of wine by potentiometric titration in both a low range (0.1 to 5.0 g/L of tartaric acid) and high range (4.0 to 25.0 g/L of tartaric acid). Total acidity for both ranges is measured on a degassed sample of wine to a fixed endpoint of pH 8.20.
The determination of total acids in wine is made according to a neutralization reaction, that is the reaction between the acids found in wine and a base. Total acidity, also referred to as titratable acidity, is the sum of the fixed and volatile acids.
Total acidity directly affects the color and flavor of wine and, depending on the style of the wine, is sought in a perfect balance with the sweet and bitter sensations of other components. Too much acidity makes wine tart and sharp; too little makes wines flat and uninteresting. Proper acidity in wine is what makes it refreshing and an ideal accompaniment to food.
