The Tangent Galvanometer is an old PSSC teaching system design. It is a kit that is assembled from the parts supplied. Consists of a flat aluminium plate held horizontal while a large coil of wire can be wound in space around it. The all aluminium construction ensures there can be no magnetic interference. A magnetic compass is placed on the plate and a DC current is passed through the coil to cause an interference between the earth's magnetic field and the field caused by the coil. Run the experiment as described in the text book.
